Frequently Asked Questions

How can I best stay informed of what is going on?
We do our best to keep our website as up to date as possible, however, it’s always a good idea to have your coaches and teammates contact information for last minute questions and/or changes. We also have a Facebook page and Twitter account that are automatically updated when we publish new information to our website.

When are tryouts?
Tryouts begin in January and continue through February. We schedule the high school varsity players to begin once their school season is completed.

How do I know if I made a team?
If you make a team we will notify you by email hopefully within 5-10 days. There is the possibility that we contact you and ask you to come back for another tryout. We do not charge you another $25 for that. And in the event that you do not make a team we do our best to notify you within that same 5-10 days.

How much does it cost?
Beginning in 2017 all grade levels will have the same number of practices and tournaments and cost the same $975. That covers the cost of everything for the entire season April through mid-July and includes 8 tournaments, 20-25 practices, uniform, shooter shirt, coaches fees, tournament fees, gym rental.

How do I make payment?
Upon acceptance of our offer, a $125 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your spot. The remaining balance of $825 is due March 1 or can be divided into 3 payments of $275 which will be due March 1, April 1, and May 1. If payment is not received on time then we reserve the right to suspend your child from participation until paid. You can pay with cash, check, or online using a credit or debit card. There is a 2.9% service fee added for online payments. Cash or check can be given to your coach. Checks can be mailed to 797 Tall Oak Lane Keller, TX 76248. Make checks payable to Fort Worth Jayhawks.

What do practices look like?
Our practices are 90-120 minutes. They are well organized and structured to balance fundamentals and team play. Our primary focus is player development. Practice dates, times, and location will be determined by your coach. It will be a regular schedule so that you can plan accordingly.   However, please be flexible and patient because on occasion we might have to switch a day or time due to unforeseen circumstances. There will be 20-25 practices beginning the first week of April. (Continued on back)

Do I have to attend practice?
YES!! Your coach has no obligation to play you if you are not attending practice. We expect you to make a commitment to attend every practice. The occasional miss is understandable and you are expected to communicate that with your coach. Same for games.

What does the tournament schedule look like?
The dates will be set before the season starts and posted on our website. Please block off Friday, Saturday, Sunday of those weekends. Tournaments will be selected as the season progresses so that we can keep each team in the most competitive situation possible. We don’t want to win games by 40 or lose by 40 although that can and will happen on occasion.

Where are the tournaments?
Most of the tournaments are in the DFW area with most of them in Lewisville, Carrollton, and Frisco. Those areas tend to have the bigger facilities. Other tournament sites are Duncanville, Desoto, Arlington, and Denton. We try to schedule 1 or 2 in our area but there are not many to choose from. Each team could travel out of town for 1 or 2 tournaments. That is entirely up to the coach and the team. Those travel expenses incurred are not included in the tuition.

What are the gate fees at the tournaments?
The gate fees (entrance fee for spectators) at the tournaments have increased significantly in the last few years. Be prepared to pay $8 – $20 per person for a tournament pass.

When will the specific game times and locations be known?
We usually receive the tournament schedule on Tuesday or Wednesday the week of a tournament. We will get that information posted on the website as soon as we receive it. Most of the time we will post a link so that you will be getting the most up to date information. You need to make it a standard practice to check the website more than once leading up to a tournament. There can always be last minute schedule changes.

What if my son/daughter is injured and cannot complete the season?
We will not be able to refund any of your money because the expenses of running the team stay the same. However, we will work with you to find a replacement who can fill your spot and pick up your expenses.

What about playing time?
Our philosophy on playing time is that all kids will play but it won’t always be equal. We cap our rosters at 10 so that all have the opportunity to contribute. Playing time is up to each coach and is based on ability, game situation, work ethic, coachability, practice attendance and any other factors the coach wishes to consider.
